Kimono de Jack Memphis: An Attempt at Revival

After some discussion with fellow kimono enthusiasts around the world, I want to try again to get Kimono de Jack going regularly in the Memphis area. It's a great opportunity to wear kimono with fellow enthusiasts. Sometimes we go to Japanese-themed events; other times we have done things like going to the zoo. Suggestions for events are always welcome as well. If you like kimono, please consider joining!

KdJ Memphis, June 2015: Jun Kaneko Exhibit

This past Thursday, my husband, my friend Shay, and I went to see the work of Jun Kaneko at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens for our Kimono de Jack Memphis outing. Shay and I both work kimono, of course!

She wore her lovely vintage hitoe komon and borrowed an obi and komono from my collection. If that kimono were larger, I'd definitely steal it! The pictures don't do it justice. 

My ensemble was a black ro komon with a whirlpool and zakuro (pomegranate) design. The obi is cream colored ro with a lantern (or a case could be made for moon) design. Both of us opted for cool blue accessories. Shay was much more modern with her styling, and as usual, I stuck to a more classical kitsuke.

Vintage Buys - Diamond Kimono and Crane Juban

As much as I love new and modern pieces, I've been itching to get some more vintage ones. Since I got permission to start our own Kimono de Jack here in  Memphis (Twitter -- Facebook -- Blog), I figured it would be a good time to do some kimono hime with some vintage kimono. Truly, the only vintage kimono I own are these two. Pretty (well, and one is crazy...) but both are BLUE. And I found so many kimono with blue as the predominant color in this search. But the one I ended up purchasing caught my eye because it was 1. NOT blue, and 2. the diamonds make it look kind of like a big playing card.

I also grabbed this juban since I own none with longer sleeves.

Now I have to figure out how to coordinate the kimono... =)
